Fantasy basketball on a chess board! I wasn’t planning on making a Blood Bowl type tabletop sports game, but a nice man made a cover illustration for it… and, well, now we have Crudbucket! Let me tell you how it happened.
What is Crudbucket?
Crudbucket is a #chess28 game of fantasy sportsball. It is a tabletop miniatures game, played on a chess board, in which teams of fantasy miniatures compete in a sport a bit like basketball, but with only one goal. It is based on my open Chess28 Core Rules System , but with a number of tweaks to make it specific to Crudbucket. This rulebook contains an early access version of the game. I wrote it because Ulrick Wery drew a lovely cover image for it (thus forcing it to exist).
What is #chess28?
A #chess28 game is one that defaces the chess board with wargaming miniatures in accordance with the #chess28 manifesto.
The Rules of Bucket
The rules of Bucket are simple. The ball is ejected from the bucket in the middle of the court. Players must transport the ball into the opposing half, where they are permitted to shoot on goal. If they get the ball in the bucket, they score a number of points (from one to four) determined by how far away the shot was taken. The match goes to the first team to score seven points.
